Financial Assistance

Tim’s Tribute can provide financial assistance to families of victim’s of homicide in two separate stages; immediately following the homicide and later during the trial process.

Immediate Needs:

Tim’s Tribute can provide compensation for:

  • Increased childcare costs (burial, funeral, police inquiries)
  • Transportation recovery costs (fuel, taxi, bus)
  • Household groceries/Personal care items
  • Applications for Immediate Needs should be received within 14 days of the homicide in order for us to effectively provide as much financial assistance to those in need as possible

Trial Needs:

Tim’s Tribute can provide compensation for:

  • Parking costs near the courthouse during the trial
  • Transportation to and from the courthouse (fuel, taxis)
  • Lunch costs during trial
  • Hotel accommodations due to change of venue, exceeding 100 kms radius
  • Household groceries / Personal care items
  • Increased child care costs to attend trial

Applications for Trial Needs should be received 14 days prior to the start of the trial.

To be eligible for compensation, you must meet the following criteria according to our approved mandate with CRA and based on your annual household income following the homicide and during the trial process:

  • The homicide occurred on or after May 6, 2013. (For Immediate Needs)
  • The trial is occurring after May 6, 2013.
  • You were the victim’s parent, spouse (or common-law partner), or child (legal guardian of the child under the age of 18) at the time of death. Siblings of victims may also be eligible in certain circumstances during the trial period.
  • The homicide occurred in Ontario.
  • You currently live in Ontario.
  • You do not have a conviction or any pending charges against you related to the homicide, and you were not found to have contributed to the homicide.
  • Each application is reviewed on a case by case basis due to the individual circumstances of the homicide.

If a claimant is under the age of 18, or unable to manage his/her personal affairs, a legal guardian must complete the application. Prior to completing the application, please review our Privacy Policy found here.
