The Healing Tree
Victims Helping Victims“Give sorrow words; the grief that does not speak knits up the o-er wrought heart and bids it break.”
-W. Shakespeare
The Healing Tree is a group formed under the umbrella of Tim’s Tribute started by Sharlene Bosma. It is a group developed by five victims who have had to endure the horrific loss of a loved one to homicide. The Healing Tree is a twelve-week group based therapy program, providing a safe environment for families to begin to heal after a homicide.
The tree itself, symbolizes our strength as a group. The roots of the tree symbolize the group members who “get it” and have experienced a homicide and the healing process. These “roots” support the “branches” which are those victims who are in need of support. The symbolism of the “healing tree” gives a renewed hope and a sense of interconnectedness between all the victims. The philosophy of The Healing Tree is “victims helping victims”.
Each week, the group sessions offer a theme to be explored and discussed. Following the twelve week sessions, families who have completed the program are invited to attend monthly meetings to continue the healing journey together.
